It was time for our first steering committee meeting and a pilot site visit in Bled, Slovenia on May 27th – 29th 2024. This pristine and beautiful location near the Julian Alps truly feels like a something from the most beautiful postcard. At the same time, Lake Bled and its water ecosystem is facing major challenges, as the influx of tourists and activities taking place on the lake are straining the carrying capacity of this beautiful, but relatively small lake. Paddling is number one sport here, as the lake offers an almost perfect setting for practicing and organizing events for the sport. Bled has been a venue for many big national and international paddling events like the European Championships in 2023. These kind of events also present a threat to sensitive blue spaces and Regenera Water Sport – project aims to offer different kinds of best practices and toolkits to support.
During our visit, we had our intensive and fruitful project steering committee meeting with conclusions in several matters of the project. Once more it was proven, that face to face work goes a long way, as our project partner collective tackled and discussed about the current project work, deliverables and objectives. During our visit, we also had a tour at the Lake Bled pilot site, hearing about the history of the location, the challenges it faces and possible actions that would be welcome for the wellbeing of the lake.
Thank you Bled and Veslaska Zveza Slovenije for the great hospitality. The project work continues. Next steering committee meeting will be arranged in Tampere, Finland which is one of the project pilot sites also.
