Cycling Week theme days
Each day of the Cycling Week has its own theme with different activities and events.

Fri 3.5. City Bike Day
City Bike Day raises awareness of the service and encourages an even larger group of people to ride one of Finland’s over 7,000 city bikes. City bikes offer an excellent opportunity for cycling even for those who don’t own their own bike. Let’s kick off Cycling Week with city bikes!

Sat 4.5. Get Your Bike in Shape Day
On Get Your Bike in Shape Day, special attention is paid to ensuring cycling is safe and enjoyable. And it’s much more fun to ride to the Cycling Week events with a bike that works!

Sun 5.5. Family Cycling Day
Family Cycling Day encourages people of all ages to ride together and invites those for whom cycling is not part of their everyday life. On Family Cycling Day, it is a good idea to seek out quiet routes where cycling is smooth, safe, and therefore enjoyable. Cycling together strengthens the feeling of safety and creates a positive cycling experience. On the best routes, cyclists of all ages can ride at their own pace in a comfortable, quiet, and peaceful environment.

10:00–14:00 Family Cycling Event at the Traffic Park

Mon 6.5. Electric Bike Day
Electric bikes are often advertised as “Faster, further, and more fun”. And rightly so, as electric-assist bikes break the perception many have of everyday cycling as demanding or somewhat challenging. An electric bike is a great way to get around that enables longer rides. As a result, the overall health benefits of electric cycling are comparable to those of cycling without electric assistance. In addition to the health benefits, electric cycling is also good for the environment; up to 50% of people who regularly cycle to work on an electric bike previously drove their car to work.

Tue 7.5. Cycle to Work Day
Cycling Week challenges everyone to cycle to work! Cycle to Work Day highlights the positive effects of commuting by bike and encourages employers to consider how commuting by bike can be promoted in the workplace. On Cycle to Work Day, everyone is encouraged to try cycling to work, or at least part of the way, and to start commuting by bike regularly.

Wed 8.5. Cycle to School Day
Cycling Week challenges children, young people, and students to cycle to school on Cycle to School Day! We also challenge parents and schools to promote cycling to school. Parents can participate by encouraging their children to cycle, by maintaining or having their child’s bicycle maintained, and by reducing unnecessary school transportation by car. Schools can participate by organizing cycling activities. Activities can include bike rides, bike safety checks, bike maintenance or smart cycling instruction, a bike-themed morning assembly, or even checking the condition of bike racks or school routes. Let’s encourage everyone to get on their bikes! Thank you for cycling!

Thu 9.5. Cycle to Activities Day
On Cycle to Activities Day, everyone is encouraged to leave their car at home when going to any hobby or activity. Those heading to singing or music lessons, drama, or film clubs, will get a good dose of exercise and fresh air on the way. Those going to sports activities will get their muscles warmed up before training. Likewise, on the way back home, the body gets a chance to recover. Cycle to Activities Day is a great way to experience how easily you can add the extra exercise you need to your daily routine.

Fri 10.5. Bike to the Store Day

Have you considered running your errands by bike instead of car? Nowadays, various transportation options allow for even larger shopping trips to be done by bike. With a cargo bike or bike trailer, you can easily transport a week’s worth of groceries, while smaller purchases can be conveniently carried in a backpack, panniers, or bike basket. Bike to the Store Day encourages people to do their shopping trips by bicycle!

Sat 11.5. Cycling Tourism Day
Cycling Tourism Day highlights cycling destinations, routes, and services, while also encouraging recreational cycling in the countryside, on roads, and in cities. Ready-made route suggestions on a map, along with route descriptions and their services, entice people to go cycling. Hop on your bike and set off on an adventure near or far! The Lake Trails offer the most stunning sights in Lakeland Finland, the coziest farm stays, and the most delicious restaurants and rural destinations.

Sun 12.5. Cycling for All Ages Day
Cycling for All Ages Day marks the end of Cycling Week. For seniors, cycling is an excellent form of endurance exercise that helps maintain mobility and overall health. Bicycles offer the possibility of independent mobility, which can have a truly significant and empowering impact on well-being. Cycling is well-suited for seniors because it does not require a driver’s license. Outdoor activities provide variety and refreshment to the daily lives of seniors, and the many versions of electric bicycles offer a physically lighter alternative to traditional pedalling.

Cycling Season is now Cycling Year!
The nationwide #pyöräilytalvi campaign continues to spread the joy of cycling even as the days shorten. Learn more about it on the Pyöräilytalvi website (available in Finnish).
